Expand your possibilities with OCTOBER-fest

2 Oct

ExpandRecently I read that 95% of our thoughts each day are the same as the previous day and, on average, 85% of those thoughts are negative.  I have heard this fact before, but it really struck me this time.  If we are thinking pretty much the same thoughts each day, then we are going to end up making the same choices, feeling the same, staying in the same place in our lives.

The work I do always relates to some sort of change and I know that many of us feel uncomfortable with change, as our thinking gets stuck in a particular pattern.

I wanted to find a way for you to start expanding your thinking, to become more comfortable with the possibility of change.  To do this, I have come up with OCTOBER-fest (and it’s nothing to do with beer!)

Over on the Horizon Hypnotherapy Facebook page, each day during October I will be asking a different question designed to expand your sense of possibility.  Questions are a great way of getting us to think about something different.  Once we are asked a question, our powerful subconscious mind has to find an answer, so it will go on a quest to come up with one.

The questions I will be asking this October are all designed to get you thinking about what positive change you want to bring into your life, to think about what is possible and to break out of the limited thoughts we often have from day to day.

As an example, the first question is:  What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?

Notice how you feel as you ask yourself that question.  Maybe you experience a sense of excitement?  What comes to mind?  Is there a project you’ve been putting off because of the fear of failure, or not being good enough? What could you do today to start taking action, a small step?  Obviously one question leads to another!

So, how do you join OCTOBER-fest?   You simply need to like the Horizon Hypnotherapy Facebook page and each day you will see the question that has been posed.  You can either answer in the comments box on Facebook or perhaps you could make October a month to start a journal and write about each question in that?

I would love to hear what you think, so please do comment on this blog post.

Here’s to expansive thinking!

Can Hypnosis Help You to STOP Smoking?

27 Sep

No-SmokingDid you know on 1st October the NHS start their annual campaign to encourage smokers to stop smoking for 28 days?

The campaign is called Stoptober and the idea is that if someone can stay smoke-free for this amount of time, they are five times more  likely to stop completely.

So, have you been thinking about giving up smoking?  Have you tried in the past and started again?  Are you fed-up with spending so much money on this habit that you really want to give up?

Hypnotherapy has been shown to be one of the most effective ways to support you in becoming a non-smoker.   Using hypnosis, we can access the subconscious mind, changing your thought patterns and letting go of unwanted habits.

As part of Stoptober, I am offering my smoking cessation sessions at a special price of £145 (standard price is £195).  For this you will receive:

  • Comprehensive pre-assessment smoking questionnaire, so I can tailor the session precisely to your needs.
  • 90-minute hypnotherapy session.
  • Hypnosis MP3 for you to use at home.

This price is available for any sessions booked before 31st October 2013.

So, don’t delay – if you are ready to become a non-smoker, contact me for an initial chat.

Three Common Misconceptions About Hypnotherapy

9 Sep

http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-image-time-now-2-image1543231When people come to me for hypnotherapy, they often have some anxiety about how it will be and I wonder whether perhaps you feel the same?

Maybe you have seen stage hypnotists who seem to take control of people getting them to do silly things and make fools of themselves?

Maybe you have heard stories of people going into a trance and not being able to come out?

Perhaps you have seen films where people have been hypnotised into doing things they wouldn’t dream of normally?  No wonder there can be some fear of hypnosis when it is often presented in this way!

It’s completely natural to have worries about trying something new, so I want to put your mind at rest now about some of the common misconceptions of hypnotherapy.

1) I’ll be out of control.

When you are in hypnosis, you are totally aware of what’s happening.   As a hypnotherapist, I cannot ‘make’ you do anything you don’t want to do.   That is why before we use hypnotherapy, I will spend some time making sure you are committed to the changes you want to make and exploring any unexpected benefits of staying the way you are.  Your subconscious mind has some powerful built-in safeguards and will not allow you to do something you wouldn’t ordinarily do or reveal anything that is not to your benefit.

During hypnotherapy you will be fully in control.   I am simply facilitating you in bringing your subconscious mind into alignment with your goals and dreams.

2) I can’t be hypnotised.

Clients often worry that they won’t be able to be hypnotised or that hypnotherapy won’t  work for them.   In fact, we move into a trance-like state naturally at many times during the day.   For example, if you have ever driven somewhere familiar, got to your destination and not remembered the journey, then you have experienced trance.  Similarly, when we daydream or switch off when watching TV, then we have gone into a light hypnotic trance.

Clients are often surprised about how familiar hypnosis feels to them and they worry that they are not ‘doing it right’.  The fact is that as a client, you can simply relax and allow me to guide you into hypnosis.  Your subconscious mind will do the rest.

3) Hypnotherapy will magically allow me to achieve my goals.

I’m sorry to say that this isn’t true!  Even though hypnotherapy is wonderfully effective in helping with many problems and issues, you do need to be committed to making changes.  When I work with clients, it is very much a two-way process.  I will often ask people to do ‘homework’ between sessions with the aim of giving the subconscious mind the focus and direction it needs.  I have found that it’s the clients who are most engaged in the process of working with me who get outstanding results.  So, ask yourself, ‘Do I really want to make this change and am I willing to do everything I need to do to reach my goal?’  If the answer is ‘Yes!’, then hypnotherapy will be perfect for you.

I hope this has answered some of your questions about hypnosis and how it can help you.  I know that there are many misconceptions about hypnotherapy and that is why I offer a free 30-minute consultation with any potential clients.  This is a chance to have a chat with me, ask any questions and discuss any worries you might have before committing to a session.

I am passionate about hypnotherapy and have seen wonderful results when working with clients, so if you want to find out more then get in touch today for your free consultation.

Five Steps to a Confident You!

19 Aug

http://www.dreamstime.com/-image7806283We all have days when we feel  a bit low, those days when it seems easier to crawl back under the covers and hide from the world.  These are the times when we need to connect with our inner confidence, that special something that gives us our sparkle back.

I know that it can sometimes feel like an impossible task to make that connection, but having these five steps to follow will empower you to feel confident and ready to take on the world again.

1) Find your own confidence talisman.   This should be something that represents confidence to you.  It might be a photo of someone you admire, a piece of jewellery or even a stone you can keep in your pocket.  When you need an extra boost of confidence, connect with your confidence talisman.  Look at it, wear it or feel it.  Let the confidence flow in to you.

2) If you were to feel confident, where would you hold your confidence in your body?  Just close your eyes and see what part of your body comes to mind.  Perhaps it’s your heart, your head, your stomach, whatever feels right for you.  Notice how confidence feels as a physical sensation.  Is it hot or cold, hard or soft?  Does it move or is it still?  Take some time to explore how you experience confidence physically.  Whenever you want to tap into your confidence, focus on the part of the body where you hold it and allow the feeling to grow and become strong.

3) Get in touch with the confident you.  Imagine how you would be if you were super-confident.  How would you dress?  How would you move?  What would you say?  What sort of thoughts would you have?  Allow yourself to imagine your most confident you and get excited about the possibility of being that way.  When you are going into a situation where you want to feel confident, connect with this part of you.  If you can imagine being this way, you can do it!

4) Realise it doesn’t have to be all or nothing.  Sometimes we label ourselves a particular way (or someone else might have done this for us!)  Perhaps we have adopted the label ‘shy’ or ‘introverted’ and we think there’s no way we can be confident at the same time – it’s like black and white thinking.  Just because sometimes you might feel shy doesn’t mean you can’t feel confident at other times.  I used to have the label ‘shy’ attached to me and thought there was no way I could stand up in front of people and talk.  I’ve come to realise that shyness is just one aspect of me and I also have a confident side.  Accept the possibility that you have many different qualities within you and confidence is certainly one of them.

5) Make a resolution to do one new thing every day to start expanding your comfort zone.  The possibilities are endless, like taking a new route to work, starting a conversation with the newsagent, taking an evening class or switching off the TV and doing something different. Have fun with them and know that with each new thing you are building your confidence.

If you start experimenting with these five steps, your confidence will start to grow naturally.   Start today and please do let me know how you get on!

Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss

5 Aug

http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photo-portrait-thoughtful-young-woman-kitchen-image29191340People are sometimes surprised that I do so much work with weight loss clients.  Wouldn’t a nutritionist or personal trainer be the most appropriate person to call on when you you want to lose weight?

Actually, until your mindset is in the right place, I’m afraid that anything you try to lose weight is going to be a struggle.

This is where hypnotherapy comes in.  When we work with hypnosis, we are working with that deep part of the mind, the subconscious, that influences our behaviour and decision-making.  If the subconscious is not in alignment with what we are trying to do for example, losing weight, then it can feel like we’re battling against ourselves.  This is when the weight loss process becomes REALLY hard work!

When I work with clients who want to lose weight, we use hypnotherapy to do three key things:

  • Let the subconscious mind know exactly what you want and how good it will be when you get there.  (This gives the subconscious the clear direction it needs).
  • Identify any unconscious blocks you might have in the form of past experiences or limiting beliefs, for example, the idea that you must ALWAYS clear your plate, or the belief that you won’t be able to maintain your ideal weight.
  • Find a way to lose weight that fits for you and is in alignment with the way you live your life.  (This means that the process feels natural and effortless, rather than frustrating and difficult).

By using hypnosis in the above ways, you can lose weight without dieting or depriving yourself.

So, rather than choosing hypnotherapy as a last resort, maybe it’s time to get your mindset in the right place and allow yourself to finally be the weight you want to be?  Contact me now to arrange your free 30-minute consultation and find out more.
